Physiotherapy to recovery

There are no health services in Izmir for refugees needing rehabilitation support. This means hundreds of people, especially kids, who have been injured from war or have treatable disabilities are left to suffer.

Meet Fatouse

Fatouse is 13yrs old with severe scoliosis. 2 years ago Fatouse's spine was normal, today it is curved at over 40 degrees, deteriorating at a rate of 2 degrees per month. If the curving increases over 60 degrees it will be life-threatening. Between 60-80 degrees breathing is difficult and it becomes too much pressure on the heart, it’s fatal.

Thankfully, scoliosis is treatable. The goal is to prevent the spine from curving further and involves physio and using braces.

There are at least 100 Syrian kids in Izmir who have treatable disabilities like Fatouse, or spinal injuries caused by bombings. And they're not getting any formal support.

And then there's Mohammad. Mohammad is a Syrian physiotherapist dedicated to treating Syrian children like Fatouse. Through the TIAFI centre, a long-term program began Sep 2017. Out of a tiny room, Mohammad is already treating 25 children.

But more can be achieved.

What's needed

The goal is to raise £5,000 to fund the build and fit out of a treatment room and to provide the equipment needed to help treat the hundreds of kids who desperately need support. Equipment such as frames and bars will give people a chance at walking and improve their quality of life.

This is a long-term program that will really change lives.

Funds raised beyond the target will enable us to provide any additional support to families.
