An exciting new chapter is set to begin in the development of the SRPS.
Following a successful first round pass by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the “Steaming Ahead” project will see development of the site at Bo’ness based around a new steam engineering facility replacing the outdated Romney Hut.
Visitors will benefit from public access and interpretation along a new route to the Museum of Scottish Railways.
The new steam facility will offer training to apprentices and Society volunteers, ensuring that specialist engineering knowledge is passed on to the next generation.
Construction of the new steam facility is planned for early 2019. Thereafter training will be offered for up to four apprentices at a time; this training will also be available for new and existing volunteers to ensure that the Society is able to continue as a largely volunteer run organisation, supported by key staff positions.
Members of the public will be able to access the new steam engineering facility.
The Steam Workshop alone is estimated to cost £766,000 of which the SRPS is expected to contribute £398,000. This “Steaming Ahead” appeal aims to raise £40,000 of the SRPS’s contribution.
Conversely should the appeals become over subscribed, your donation will be held in the project funds for use in future developments.
