Wall-to-Wall (OP4) Double Donations Dash

Wall-to-Wall Appeal: The more we raise beyond our initial target, the more complete the new building will be!  A generous donor has matched the first £100,000 of donations received under the Double Donations Dash.  We now need to raise as much as possible by 31 December 2018 to progress the fourth wall, doors and interior.  The total raised so far includes the doubling element.

The 2014 Cash for Cover Appeal enabled us to construct the shell of Operation Undercover Phase 4 (OP4), the Horsted Keynes Carriage Shed Extension.  Our carriage maintenance activities are under cover at last, and the first of the 26 historic vehicles are now stored in the second part of the shed.

We are now looking to raise enough to clad three, or hopefully all four, of the walls, and progress the Heritage Skills Centre, a two-storey building on the eastern side of the shed, for which the steel structure and roof is now complete.  This will include a class-room/meeting room, a training workshop, trim shop and varnish shop, a small office and a records store.  There is still a lot more to be raised to complete the project; please continue to give generously!

The Bluebell Railway is justifiably renowned for its fantastic collection of vintage carriages. We still have over 20 pre-nationalisation carriages stored in the open - to conserve them for the future it is vital to secure them under cover as soon as possible.
The improved facilities for matintenance are already paying dividends, with an increased area now available for the vital mechanical maintenance and lifting of carriages; to make this more productive we need to complete the walls!

My family and friends have been enjoying Christmas on the Bluebell’s Pullman dining train for decades. We hope this donation will go a little way to help maintain the Bluebell’s lovely historic rolling stock for many more decades.
