Nikki's Puerto Rico Appeal

NIKKI's HEADING BACK TO PUERTO RICO!
We want to shine a spotlight on spay and neuter as the most effective and humane means of decreasing the number of homeless animals put down in shelters or living on the street. Many animal lovers have heard of Puerto Rico's ‘dead dog beach’ a stretch of sand and jungle on the island's southeastern side where people dump their dogs. But the truth is Puerto Rico has become ‘dead dog island.’  Part of the reason the dog crisis is so bad in Puerto Rico is that Puerto Ricans don't spay or neuter their dogs.  The trouble is when dogs get abandoned on the streets, they breed and breed and breed.  There are not enough veterinarians in Puerto Rico.  Veterinarians are willing to come help- for free. They offer to treat and neuter strays, but technically, they have been forbidden from operating under Puerto Rican law.  However, in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria the government has lifted the foreign veterinarian ban for 18 months, we have a window to do something.

From the 11th- 16th March we are working with VIDAS, The Humane Society Puerto Rico ,The Puerto Rico Dog Fund and Stevo-O to run a free clinic to low income residents in Ponce in Puerto Rico, and the mission is to sterilise 1000 dogs and cats. You can help! Just £30 will help us to neuter one of these 1000 dogs. Donate now and help us to change these dog’s futures.
