Make Christmas Count for an ex-detainee in 2018

The festive season is upon us- the shops are full of glittering gifts and people are gearing up for Christmas, parties, and holidays. No one could fail to see and feel the atmosphere of anticipation. For ex-detainees and their families, Christmas is a time when they can feel more marginalised and isolated than ever. When everyone else seems to be having a lovely time - giving and receiving gifts and seeing friends and family- nothing changes for them.

People receiving asylum support cannot afford to travel to visit children, friends or family. Those in receipt of cashless support don’t have the option of choosing between eating or travelling. Many ex-detainees don’t receive any support from the Home Office and rely on charities like Samphire for emergency support for essential living.

We would like to raise £1000 which will to allow us to provide money for a small gift for each child and to provide low-cost travel for ex-detainees to visit family and friends over the festive period.

This money will make the festive season a bit special for ex-detainees and their families. Your generosity will bring families together and make Christmas special.

By donating to this appeal we can provide money that will make a difference at this time.
• £5 will buy a phonecard to call home.
• £10 will allow a family to buy a small gift for a child.
• £15 will pay travel costs for an ex-detainee to family & Friends.
• £20 will buy a warm coat and waterproof shoes from a charity shop.
