Middleton Rotary Kenya Water Projects

Middleton Rotary Club is raising money to help provide water for Tharaka, Meru and also Kajuki, both in Kenya. The Tharaka project was set up 5 years ago and so far the club have been successfully linking up with other Rotary clubs to progress the projects. The first project was completed about 18 months ago, and this was to build a wall about two feet high, around two rocks
forming a tank to collect clean rainwater on each. Both tanks joined to a single pipe, which runs to a kiosk tap near the village. In Kajuki, Middleton Rotary is working on plans to provide irrigation from the fast flowing Nithi River channelling it to farmland several kilometres away. When this proves insufficient, installed pumps will be activated to maintain the flow. All this takes much planning and funding so any contributions to these causes are greatly appreciated.

Middleton Rotary Club have a letter from a member of the Rotary Club in Meru, and they said that average marks for the children at school have risen from 230 to 280, which is a dramatic increase. Water based illnesses have also decreased, so the health has improved.
The Rotary Club has provided 1,800 people with access to clean water, and although it may have taken a lot of planning, time, effort and money, they are proud of the improvement that has been made on the Kenyans’ lives.
