Supporting Mental Health Care In The Community

We are raising money to fund the delivery of mental health care services in the communities around Bwindi, Kagando and Kisiizi hospitals in SW Uganda.
All three hospitals are embarking on an extension of mental health services outwards into the surrounding community. The aim is to reduce dependency on hospital visits for treatment and significantly increase the quality and accessibility of services. Attendance at hospital is often costly and requires travel over significant distances with poor transport links.
Staff have been recruited or redeployed and there are plans to hold more clinics and to carry out more home visits. Work will also be done with local leaders to increase understanding of mental illness and to reduce stigma. For more information please go to Jamie's Fund website,

From the DTM&H students at LSTM. This was leftover from our kitty after a weekend in the lake district. We all agreed that this would be the perfect way to use it. Thanks to Maureen Wilkinson for such an inspiring day on the Friday before our trip.

I was touched by Jamie's story, and the wish to bring good out of something so sad.

Great to see the building has been complete. I hope the next phase goes well and enables more people in the community to be able to receive the treatment they need.
