Jack Guthrie - Windsor Half Marathon 2018

Support Jack -running to beat loneliness
Jack Guthrie,77 year old long distance runner is competing in the Windsor Half Marathon on 30th September to help raise funds for Surrey Heath Age Concern (SHAC). 'It's a wonderful charity that works to reduce loneliness and isolation among older folks.'
Loneliness and old age
As people live longer  so many find they lose their network of friends and  families often become scattered across the nation and abroad. Loneliness and isolation is major detractor of health both physical ad mental. People feel better and do better if they have friends and social contact .
Help us do more - Surrey Heath Age Concern
Things are going really well, people like and enjoy what we do but despite doubling the number of people we help over the last two years we have become over subscribed. This winter we have gained a big waiting list for all the services we provide ! We are not an expensive charity to run - we have 80 plus volunteers delivering the services but to be effective we have to have a core of professionals managing the service and to meet demand we need to move towards operating on 7 day basis.

Hence the need to generate more income.
Our befriending volunteers make 200 visits to older people every month. We need to double that to meet demand.
Tea and chatter monthly event takes out over 30 people for afternoon tea on Sundays, the loneliest day of the month!
Our rainbow Cafe - open 6 days a week has over 200 customers per week.
It's tea and memories afternoons are over subscribed.

Well done you, from a nappy rash in Gran Canaria. You’re one of the fittest people I know, never mind being 77! Show the youngsters how to do it.
