IODPA Tour de Force

At the end of May, former police officer, Mark, challenges himself to undertake the hardest cycle ride in Britain, John O’Groats to Lands End.

Mark is a long term sufferer of PTSD, caused whilst serving as Police Officer. The symptoms are often severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on their day to day lives.

Each person’s experience of PTSD is unique to them. Whilst some people use negative and self destructive coping mechanisms (such as alcohol, drugs, or self harming) Mark felt he needed a positive type of coping mechanism. He decided to set himself a challenge, as a result, cycling the JOGLE route.

The training for the bike ride is helping him build his confidence and contributing to a more positive outlook.  Mark is also determined to raise awareness of the condition en route and to raise enough funds to facilitate therapy for other injured police officers.

Mark is being heavily supported by a huge team around him, including a paramedic. His entire ride is totally organised for him so that all Mark has to concentrate on, is cycling.

Mark is hoping to raise £10,000 for IODPA and can only achieve this with your help!!

Mark’s son, Zeke, is also cycling the entire journey to act as his support as two weeks from home and familiar surroundings will be extremely tough for Mark.
There will also be a mental health care professional available 24 hours a day for Mark, as well as a paramedic following him.
