Glorney Gilbert International Appeal

Chess Scotland hosts the 2018 Glorney Gilbert international youth team tournaments (at the University of the West of Scotland, Paisley, 15-19 July). National squads of 20 junior players from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and the Netherlands will come together in three days of intense competitive team chess. The annual Glorney internationals were originally conceived in 1948 as a Boys' tournament, and have since expanded to include teams from continental Europe. There are now under-18 Boys' and Girls' events (the Glorney and Gilbert Cups) and events for under-14s and under-12s (the Robinson and Stokes Cups).
It is a great honour to play in these events. Going back to the 1950s, most of Scotland's top senior internationals look back on playing in these events fondly and with gratitude. Many former players have since actively supported these events, as donors, managers, chaperones or coaches.
The trustees are pleased to make a grant of £1,000 towards Chess Scotland's total budget for this year's events of around £6,250, whose main provisions are for the accommodation costs for the 20 selected Scottish players and venue costs.

In partnership with Chess Scotland, who will run the event, we launch this appeal with a target of £4,000. All funds raised will be applied to meet the 2018 event's budgetary costs, with any excess retained by the Trust in funds restricted to meet any future approved applications for support for Scottish junior international chess.
We commend this appeal and if you are a UK taxpayer, do please Gift Aid any donation which automatically adds 25% to its value. Thank you.
