Newham Giving Day 2018

Newham Giving was launched in 2014 by East End Community Foundation as a means of encouraging a co-ordinated approach to philanthropy. It is a multi-donor fund making a positive difference to disadvantaged children and young people in Newham. Newham Giving supports local projects with funding to deliver high quality school holiday provision.  In 2017, we distributed a total of £85,626 in grants to local charities and community projects supporting positive school holiday activities.
At the heart of Newham Giving’s approach is collaboration. We bring together a variety of partners, corporate donors, small to medium sized businesses, schools, and faith based organisations to help maximise the social impact we can achieve collectively.
These projects provide a lifeline to local families struggling to afford engaging activities during the Summer holidays for their children. With Newham ranked the fifth highest local authority in the country for children living in poverty, and a 21% increase in knife attacks on under 25's in the last year, there is a critical need for positive and diversionary activities across the borough.

Parents tell us that without free or low cost local projects, their children would be left with nothing to do during school holiday periods. This is also a time when, according to Metropolitan Police reports, there are spikes in anti-social behaviour. The projects supported by Newham Giving directly respond to these issues, delivering positive and diversionary activities focused on supporting children and young people’s social and academic development, whilst reducing anti-social behaviour.
