Help Build a Classroom at Mercy Primary

The students at Mercy Primary have been studying in hot, unsafe classrooms made of iron sheets for too long. We are trying to raise £6,850 to build a new classroom for the oldest children in the school to provide the safe learning environment that they deserve.

The current classrooms are cramped and completely unsuitable for learning. In hot weather, the iron sheets absorb the heat and the classrooms become stiflingly hot. In rainy season, the ground is muddy and dangerous and the classrooms leak. In the wind it is unsafe to enter the classrooms at all. Earlier this year the roof blew off one of the classrooms and had to be fixed - luckily, not while students were at school. The iron sheets are sharp and dangerous and lack of concrete floors mean students regularly contract jiggers.

Mercy Primary School is providing good quality education to 125 children living in a poor community, in a region where 70% of citizens live on less than $2 per day.

Thank you for helping provide a better learning environment for the students at Mercy Primary.

Regent Farm First School has a thriving partnership with Mercy Primary. They have been working hard to raise funds for the construction. Additional support from the Institute of Water, Newcastle High School for Girls Junior School and Fellside Primary School means that around £3,000 has already been pledged. Please help us to raise the remaining £3,850.

If more than the target is reached then the excess will be invested in the building of the 2nd of the 8 classrooms needed at Mercy Primary.
