Alan Phipps

In memory of Alan Phipps 1948-2016 who passed away unexpectedly on 14th May while enjoying himself on a tennis holiday in Corfu. Alan learned to ring at All Saints Maidstone in April 1996 and remained there until the end of 2005 when he moved to Kings Hill and joined the West Malling band where he was involved in teaching. He was also a regular visitor to Aylesford, East Malling, Mereworth and Leeds.
We would like to recognise his contribution to ringing in Kent by raising money to donate a bell in his name to a project. Pat Phipps, 2nd July. Alan was an enthusiastic supporter of the Keltek Trust; on one occasion he found two bells in an antiques shop in West Malling; both were acquired and he subsequently rang on both - the treble at Imber, Wiltshire and the tenor at St Peter's College, Johannesburg. Dave Kelly 2nd July.

Subject to faculty approval we hope that Monkton, Kent bells will be augmented from a ring of four to a ring of six and one of the bells will be given in memory of Alan. Two second hand bells have been identified for the potential project. Latest news: 24th Jan 2017 - Monkton PCC have given approval for the project.
March 26th 2017: the target has been reached; future donations will now be put towards the installation of the bell.

Alan was such a gentleman, and good fun. Sadly missed but I'm glad to hear that he was playing tennis in a beautiful place when you went. We met on a tennis holiday and I have many happy memories of Letoonia and his visits to Brighton.
