Able Miller Family Appeal - Say NO to Racism

The CCTV footage recalls Alex Haley's Roots as a group of young men in hoods make blood-sport out of a black man defending his family. Able Miller is 62, an academic, engineer and former parliamentarian from Zimbabwe. He is also disabled after being shot and burned in Zimbabwe for
his political activities. In the early hours of Sunday 6 Nov, he was attacked with lit fireworks and bricks by young men who proceeded to racially abuse him. The incident was caught on CCTV. Able was taken to hospital and treated for burns to his hands and feet. The experience has left the family feeling unsafe in Scotland. They came here looking for safety, but were attacked 17 times. The latest attack left his 13-year-old daughter, who has Down’s syndrome, cowering in her bedroom. Able said, “In Zimbabwe, I had my back broken and I was shot twice in the left leg. But this was the worst thing I ever experienced. I thought I was going to lose my mind as they were attacking me.”

We are gathering donations for the Miller family to help them move home and resettle. Please donate what you can and show Able Miller and his family that Scotland says NO to racism and they have friends they have never met who care. Your donation will go to the Miller family, and all gift aid collected will be used to support other victims of racism. To make a donation please donate online here or go to www.paih.org/donate for other ways to give.
