Welcome to the fundraising page for the Young People's Puppet Theatre, a new arts education charity that works with disadvantaged children and young people. We run large-scale puppetry projects that help children and young people to develop both practical and social/emotional skills. Through the process of designing and making a puppet, working with others to design and construct sets, and finally taking an individual role in rehearsals and performances of the group's show for the school and local community, the children involved develop a huge range of creative and practical skills, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, woodwork, set and costume design, puppetry, stage management, voice acting, lighting design, sound effects and scene changes. More important, however, are the social and emotional benefits; the children gain confidence in their abilities, raise their aspirations, improve their resilience in the face of challenges and learn to work closely in a team. Many of our projects work with Year 6 children who are facing the stress of SATs; our projects help them deal with these challenges and prepare for an emotionally healthier transition to secondary school.

The YPPT was founded in 2015 and has since run 29 very successful projects involving around 900 children and young people. We estimate that 10,000 people have seen one of our shows since the beginning. The feedback from children, teachers and parents has been incredibly positive - you can read more on our website (

When we first started our work in 2015, schools with large numbers of disadvantaged pupils were more than happy to cover the costs of the projects as they could see the benefits that we brought for their students. The recent budget cuts to schools have been devastating; for example, we had to cancel all of our projects in London for the 2017-18 academic year due to a lack of funding. Schools in wealthier areas are able to ask parents and parent-teacher associations to contribute; schools in disadvantaged areas cannot do this, and the children who most need our help are missing out as a result. Your support will help us reach the children who are in most need of a project like this.

We are also interested in building relationships with corporate sponsors - if your company would like to support us, please get in touch via our website.
