Working Chance is an award winning charity (Register no 1131802) and the UK’s only recruitment consultancy working exclusively for and with women leaving the criminal justice and care systems. Working Chance was founded by Jocelyn Hillman OBE (Chief Executive Officer) in 2007 following a discussion with women who were serving time at HMP Holloway who reported that they had given up hope of ever working again. Since then, Jocelyn and her team of expert recruitment consultants have placed more than 1700 candidates into paid or voluntary work with a very broad spectrum of employers from British MPs to SMEs to international brands. Employment has been proven to be the number one factor in reducing re-offending, which costs the UK economy up to £13bn a year. 83% of these candidates sustained work for six months or more and our candidate re-offending rate has been consistently less than 4% which is significantly less than the national rate of 48%.

Our work with young care leavers helps break the inter-generational cycle of offending and poverty by finding these candidates sustainable employment. Our early intervention work allows these young women to develop confidence, skills and financial security, preventing them from entering the criminal justice system and enabling them to cross the social divide, from lives of exclusion to lives of contribution. For all of our candidates, a job is more than a source of income. It means a future where she and her family can flourish.

Our aim is to educate more employers, change their hiring practices and help them create social value. We lobby politicians and we shift attitudes among employers, the media and society.

Our goal is to transform the futures of marginalised women – forever. Can you support us?
