Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR)

Charity description

Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) logo
Wiltshire Search and Rescue exists to assist Wiltshire Police in the search for vulnerable missing persons.
Our primary aims are to search, locate and remove the missing person (MisPer) to a place of safety.

WILSAR operates all over Wiltshire and occasionally surrounding counties to assist Wiltshire Police in the search for missing and vulnerable people such as children, people with learning difficulties, depression or suicidal tendencies or the elderly with dementia. We average one callout per week with some stood down after a few hours and others going on for several days.

Our 50 members are trained in specialist search techniques. They are all 100% volunteers and pay for their own fuel, kit and training. The team receives no government funding so we can only exist by our own fundraising and public donations such as yours. Our members, as with many of the other volunteer services in Wiltshire, seek no reward for what they do, just the feeling that they are doing something to help.

In 2011 we received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and in 2013 we proudly received the Wiltshire Police Chief Constable’s Certificate of Merit.
