Waltham Forest Dyslexia Association

Charity description

Waltham Forest Dyslexia Association logo
Waltham Forest Dyslexia Association is currently fundraising to help support and underwrite our Youth Classes.

Despite these classes adding hugely to the life chances and positive progressions for these young people, in these cash-strapped times, there is no support from Local or National Government for this work.

Our sincere thanks for any support you may be able to offer.

Around 10 % of us have some level of Dyslexia. For many, it can be a barrier to educational or career progress. It can also lead to feelings of inadequacy that none deserve. It is not biased toward any Class, Creed or Culture.

For 30 years WFDA has supported the needs of sufferes. Thanks to a dedicated team of Volunteers, many themselves dyslexic, we have grown our work to improve the lives and break down barriers for people across North and East London.

Regular free monthly, open, meetings host inspirational guest speakers from the Arts, Business, Education Science and Sport, all with a positive story about how they have overcome barriers and turned their Dyslexia into a positive force.

As well as a schools Screening service, we run weekly term-time Youth Classes, offering development in areas such as Handwriting, Literacy Numeracy and Touch-Typing. Led by a team of Educational professionals, these are, once again, supported by volunteers with costs heavily subsidised by the Charity. Our objective is to ensure that no child is denied an opportunity to learn just because of financial hardship.
