Our aim is to support the learning of Igbo Language and Culture in mainstream Schools in the UK. Language cannot be separated from culture; it is a vehicle of identity, socialisation, solidarity and cohesion. A solid foundation in the home language, Igbo, increases children’s self- esteem and confidence in their own ethnicity.
The children would then have connections with their family, country, extended family members, Igbo culture and sustained with adequate self identity.
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, it goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language that goes to his heart.” Nelson Mandela.
We are appealing to Ndị Igbo and their friends for donations to cover the development Stage charge of £100, 000 due in January 2015; and additional £45,000 for the payment of teachers and the teaching resources. We are now teaching Igbo in some mainstream secondary schools in London.
