Tutbury Priory Church
At the beautiful Grade I Listed Norman Priory Church in Tutbury, East Staffordshire, we are raising funds for the Conservation of the Priory Alabaster Arch, built circa 1160 and the only external alabaster arch in the UK and the UK's earliest example of alabaster carving, of national, probably international, importance.
The Alabaster Arch survived well for 800 years, being described as being in a good state of preservation in the 1830s. Now, after 150 years of acid rain and other atmospheric pollutants, 55 of the 120 alabaster carvings are damaged, some destroyed.
The project will clean the remaining carvings and conserve them for the future.
