THOMAS BEWICK SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OF FRIENDS
Thomas Bewick School is for children and young people with autistic spectrum disorder. It was set up by Newcastle Local Education Authority in 1999 as a specialist provision in the City although it also serves pupils from other local authorities. The school has over 200 pupils on roll, all of whom have an Educational Health Care plan which identifies Austism as their principle special educational need. Our pupils have a range of learning needs; some will require a high level of adult support to access the curriculum.
The Friends support the school financially in whichever way that support is most needed. The school runs a holiday play scheme which we have supported financially for a number of years to keep the cost to families as low as possible. The Friends would like to be able to sustain this support in the future, however the school also needs the Friends support in providing much needed specialist equipment for play and sensory activities on both school sites. Any monies raised or donated is greatly appreciated and may be used for either project.
