Charity description

The Welcome Centre logo
The Welcome Centre, food bank and more supports individuals and families in extreme crisis in South Kirklees. We are an independent registered charity that works to ensure no one is going hungry within our community.
In the last 10 years the demand for our service has increased significantly and we are supporting more and more people, especially families who just can't make ends meet.
Last year we provided the equivalent of more than 150,000 meals to people struggling with debt, job loss, eviction, addiction and more.

We provide practical, short-term support to help local people who are in crisis. We offer basic essentials such
as food, toiletries, and bedding as well as a listening ear and
information about where to get further help.
Our Development Worker provides advice and guidance on issues such as housing, debt and access to benefits and grants.

People receive our help through a referral from a front line service such as social worker, support worker, job centre gp or teacher. We  try to provide a breathing space
for people in need and aim to stop a crisis turning into a tragedy.
