The Sand House Charity
The Sand House was a mansion-sized dwelling carved from solid sandstone, in a former quarry in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
We are a charity dedicated to not only sharing the story of the unique Victorian marvel that was the Sand House, but also using the subject to inspire ongoing educational, artistic and heritage projects.
Although the Sand House itself is, sadly, no more, we want the legacy of this amazing place to play a key role in educating new generations in a range of related topics.
The projects that we are involved with include:
- exhibitions and displays
- Illustrated talks
- guided walks
- providing educational materials
- a Sand House play
- collaborating with a local college working on 3D computer modelling
- sand art workshops
- drama workshops
- literary workshops
- sand sculpture training
- stone carving
- researching and recording the history of the Sand House
- any other educational activity with a link to the Sand House.
