The Reading List Foundation

Charity description

The Reading List Foundation logo
Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate. We are the Reading List Foundation, and we help exceptional students from lower-income households in England succeed at university, by awarding Reading List Scholarships of £250 to pay for their textbooks in the first year of study.

Such students can face severe financial pressures at university, and our Scholarships help them academically, give them some much needed financial and emotional breathing space, as well as a welcome boost to their CV.

We passionately believe that students from lower-income households in England deserve greater financial support than they currently get, that funding their Reading List in their first year has a direct impact on them academically, and that being selected for a Scholarship as a result of their personal achievements at A-level gives a timely confidence boost as they start university.

We believe that with approximately 4 million graduates in England having received a university education ‘for free’ without tuition fees, there is enough goodwill among older graduates for the Reading List Foundation to grow and flourish.

Where possible, we encourage our donors to make their donations personal, by funding a Scholarship at their old school, or a school in their local community or where they grew up.  In this way we have donors funding Scholarships at schools from the North East to the South West of England.

“It's made me feel so appreciated and respected - I was so shocked when my Head of Sixth gave it to me.”
