The Alf Morris Fund for Independent Living

Charity description

The Alf Morris Fund for Independent Living logo
The Alf Morris Fund for Independent Living is a new initiative administered by the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), the leading UK charity providing expert and impartial advice to older and disabled people on living independently at home. It is named in honour of the late Lord Morris of Manchester, DLF’s longest-serving Vice-President and one of our foremost social reformers.

As MP for Wythenshawe, Alf introduced The Chronically Sick & Disabled Persons Act (1970), which transformed the lives of millions of disabled people in the UK and worldwide. It was the first legislation anywhere to recognise essential rights in areas as diverse as the built environment, education, employment and mobility.

The new Fund will honour Alf’s legacy by helping people to access resources that can keep them independent. The Fund recognises that fairness and informed choice are central to human dignity and its goal, to quote Alf’s own words, is “adding life to years” rather than just years to life.

Please donate to The Alf Morris Fund for Independent Living. Your gift will help DLF provide older and disabled people, carers and health professionals with life-changing information on aids to daily living. It will also assist the Fund in raising public awareness about how best to support people’s independence outside the institutionalised system of residential care.
