SFR aims to significantly improve the lives and living conditions of children who have been abandoned by their birth families in oppressive and poorly managed orphanages.
Through the help of a small number of volunteers in N. Ireland and Romania, SFR has built 3 homes for just over 30 children who previously lived in overcrowded buildings, were rarely allowed to go outside and never had any visitors. These children were denied any form of formal education due to their abandoned status, and were looked after by a limited number of unskilled and untrained staff. Through the work of the volunteers and the support of our sponsors, SFR has really made a difference to these children's lives.
Over the past 16 years SFR has rescued 33 children and built 3 family homes for them in groups of around 10 to 11 children. We have introduced the children to a formal education system and regular health care. 16 Years on, we are delighted with the progress we have made. We visit our houses every year and are certain we have changed these childrens' lives forever.
It is now time for some of our young people to move into full time employment and our next phase is help provide supported living and supported employment in both our shop and other local industries in Romania.
We need your help to make this a reality.
Many thanks for your interest and support of our work.
