St Marie's Cathedral Lewis Organ Restoration
Located in the heart of Sheffield’s city centre, St Marie’s Cathedral is a hidden gem – an oasis of calm and spirituality. It is a Grade II* listed building, a centre for Catholic worship since 1850, andthe mother church of the Diocese of Hallam.
St Marie’s Cathedral currently costs nearly £145,000 a year to run, with over £42,000 on that simply covering the cost of heating lighting, water and Council Tax. Our current revenues stand at just over £130,000. Unless we can find ways to bridge that financial gap, we may be forced to reduce the number of hours we are open, and the number of regular Masses we can offer.
In order to continue our work here at St Marie’s, we need help bridging that financial gap. Can you help?
More About St Marie’s Cathedral:
St Marie’s Cathedral has recently been through a much-needed, full programme of re-ordering, restoration, conservation and refurbishment. The first phase took place in 2011-2012, and the second phase took place 2015-2018. The work restored and preserved our heritage, and ensured that St Marie’s Cathedral is a fit-for-purpose today, and for future generations.
Whilst the Cathedral was lucky enough to be awarded a Heritage Lottery Funded (HLF) grant to conserve much of its heritage, and to widely share its stories and treasures, we are still left with an outstanding debt of £1.1m.
We are also lucky to be mostly staffed by volunteers, all of whom give their time for the benefit of others.
Supporting the work of this Church financially will ensure that this hidden gem can remain accessible for all who seek it’s spiritual support, or want to simply enjoy it’s charm and hidden treasures.
