St John's Church
In the centre of Burgess Hill for over 150 years St John’s Church is the only Grade II* listed building in Burgess Hill, and hosts the food bank, 'Forget me Not' dementia cafe, Stroke Club, IT drop-in for senior computer/tablet users, cookery classes for people in assisted living, mums and toddler groups and many other community activities.
The response of Burgess Hill people to the Christmas lights appeal has been wonderful. We are now able to close the appeal with sincere thanks to everyone who has donated or expressed their support. We have raised sufficient funds to ensure a very bright Christmas and shall release details of the money raised once the totals are in.
We currently use this fundraising page for two purposes:
1) General donations
2) Organ appeal
In the donation section please specify in the message box whether your donation is for General or Organ.
Organ - information
St John's houses the magnificent three manual pipe organ built by James Jepson Binns. Sadly, due to its age, a number of notes are no longer playable, due to wear of the key action, water leak damage meaning the organ can no longer be used for concerts or by external musicians. An estimate from a respected organ restorer which gives an overall cost in the region of £135,000for the recommended work.We have already raised around £50,000 but now we need substantial assistance in reaching our target.
