Charity description

St. Chad's Sanctuary logo
“I was a stranger and you made me welcome.” (Matthew 25:35)

A place of welcome and hospitality for Asylum Seekers and Refugees, especially those who are destitute and have no recourse to public funds.

Founded in 2010, St Chad’s Sanctuary began as a place of welcome for asylum seekers, providing at first a friendly smile and warm waiting place.

Since these beginnings, with the support of St Chad’s Cathedral, the Salvation Army, generous benefactors and volunteers, the project has grown into a significant source of help for asylum seekers and refugees.

The friendly smile and refreshments remain at the centre of the welcome we offer, but services also now included providing food, toiletries and clothing to the recently arrived and the destitute, offering advice or a listening ear, and a growing range of ESOL and drop-in classes.

The need for our services continues to grow, and at the heart of it all the same principle remains: to provide help to some of the most vulnerable and excluded of our society and to make the stranger welcome.
