Southend Blind Welfare Organisation
Welfare Organisation (SBWO) is an independent charity which provides practical help to visually impaired people in and around the Southend-on-Sea area, providing services to give visually impaired people the chance to do things they want to do, which many of us take for granted, to gain confidence and to feel a part of the community around them.
People who are visually impaired find it difficult to get out and about and mix with other people. The Southend Blind Welfare Organisation (SBWO) runs clubs, social activities, day trips, theatre trips, other special events and holidays such as Rambling & Walking and Turkey & Tinsel. SBWO help towards the cost of taxi fares for these events where funding allows, as many of our members can't just hope on a bus to get from A to B very easily.
The Equipment and Information Centre in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, offers people with sight problems a chance to try out a large range of specialist equipment including voice enhanced computers, CCTVs and other aids for daily independent living.
Our Residential Home, Elkington House, (also in Westcliff-on-Sea) is a specialist home offering sensitive care to older people with sight problems in a friendly and warm environment.
To help raise funds we have a charity shop in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-on-Sea; donations always welcome.
