Charity description

South Manchester Down's Syndrome Support Group is a local parent-led charity, which supports children and adults who have Down’s syndrome and their families. We provide activities, social events, speech and language therapy, information and training to enable our young people to fulfil their potential.

We offer opportunities for parents/carers to meet, share information and experiences, develop support networks and celebrate successes, and for children and siblings to make friends and have fun. We support new parents by providing support and friendship through a local network.

We run training courses for parents and professionals, delivered by leading practitioners, which address the specific learning profile of individuals who have Down’s syndrome, demonstrating best practice strategies to promote learning and development.

Activities include Chatterbox club, pre-school group, drama and events like the exclusive use of a soft play centre, interactive storytelling, and a very popular Christmas party!

We have a library of resources which members can borrow and we get involved in initiatives such as the DSA’s Tell it Right, Start it Right training for midwives and its WorkFit programme supporting adults with Down’s syndrome into meaningful work-related activities.
