Sentebale helps the most vulnerable children in Lesotho receive the support they need to lead healthy and productive lives. Lesotho in Southern Africa suffers the second highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world. Over half the population live in poverty and life expectancy is on average just 50 years. Within a population of just over 2 million, it is estimated that 1 in 3 children are orphans. Despite progress in many areas, HIV continues to be the number one cause of death for adolescents in Africa, as many children living with HIV do not have access to the treatment they need. Sentebale works with these children to increase their knowledge and understanding of the HIV virus, encourage them to access treatment, and improve their chances of living healthy and happy lives. We identify, support and empower Lesotho’s most vulnerable children.
