Roma Support Group
The Roma Support Group (RSG) is the only Roma-led registered charity organisation in Britain. Each year we are making a difference to vulnerable Roma families in London, combating their poverty, homelessness and social exclusion through advocacy programmes, education support and campaigning activities. We also support agencies and professionals, who work with Roma families across the UK, offering them our specialist advice, training and consultancy support.
Our publications, concerts, exhibitions, festivals and workshops promote an understanding of Roma culture and history, creating a meeting point between communities and a chance to absorb the richness of Roma culture as part of our common historical and cultural heritage.
Why the community needs this charity?
Despite being the largest ethnic minority in Europe, Roma have experienced persecution and discrimination for centuries. The continuous discrimination and social exclusion of this community has resulted in various problems, including poor health; the shortest life expectancy; the lowest educational attainment in Britain; extreme poverty; social exclusion; homelessness; and limited employability skills.
Results and outcomes:
Starting in 1998 as a self-help group for a handful of Roma families, today we directly support approximately 5,000 Roma people in London and many more thousands of Roma in-directly benefit from our training and consultancy support for professionals UK-wide.
