RICE– The Research Institute for the Care of Older People provides international research, diagnosis, treatment and support for people with dementia, in a purpose built centre, located in the South West (Bath).
Our ambition is to help find more effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias.
The new purpose-built RICE centre opened in January 2008 and included space for future development to enable organisational growth. We now urgently need this additional space for our increasing research and clinical activity to support the increasing number of people with dementia.
We have launched the DementiaPlus Appeal to raise a minimum £1.23m by 2019 to develop the top floor of the RICE Centre to provide additional research and patient consultation space.
The ground floor and the first floor at RICE is operating at full capacity and extending into the second floor will create additional research, diagnostic, treatment and support space.
The campaign will also provide 3 senior clinical researchers.
Currently there is no cure for dementia and there are no new drugs which have been licensed to treat the disease since 2002. There are an estimated 820,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is expected to double within the next 20 years.
We need to increase our research and patient consultation facilities to support as many people with dementia as possible.
Any donations towards the appeal are very much appreciated, thank you.
