Charity description

Plastic Oceans UK was the first charity focused on plastics and have been experts on the issue for nearly a decade. This began with our award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean, which is available on Netflix. Now we’re changing attitudes, behaviours and practices on the use and value of plastics to stop plastic pollution reaching the ocean within a generation.

The ocean is drowning in our plastic pollution. Eight million tonnes of waste enters the ocean every year. This is having a devastating impact on the marine environment, wildlife and - ultimately - human health. The complexities of the plastic crisis require action commensurate with the scale of the problem. That's why we've developed our three pillars to cause a wave of change.

We’re solving the plastic crisis through our science, sustainability and education programmes.

OUR EDUCATION PROBLEM
Plastic Oceans UK have a global view of the issue and have worked with scientists for 10 years, out on the ocean and in laboratories. We have documented the disturbing consequences of ingested plastic in seabirds, turtles, marine mammals and fish. And we want to pass that knowledge on to as many as we can.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SCIENCE
Any information released by our Foundation is backed by peer-reviewed science. Through our relationships with the world’s leading scientists we can fund reports into emerging solutions, translate that knowledge into our education platform, and influence Government policy to take action.

SUSTAINABILITY – WORKING WITH BUSINESS
Whether in products or packaging, plastic is used by a broad range of commercial organisations, creating products for consumers and business. We help businesses adapt to their customers' demands for less plastic, in turn reducing individuals’ plastic footprints.

Thank you for donating. Together, we can stop plastic entering the oceans within a generation.
