People in Need Worldwide maybe a small charity but it has a great reputation for getting things done. Each year People in Need choose a project to work with. They raise the money themselves with the help of the people around them, they then travel to the project and complete it and return knowing that the original plan was followed and the right people received the help they needed. Past projects include renovating an orphanage in Romania, successfully digging a well in Africa, providing a multi-sensory to aid disabled children adapt their responses to sensory stimulation and to advance education and therapy goals.

In 1989, the dictatorial leader of Romania, Nicolae Ceauşescu was executed for crimes that included genocide and the illegal gathering of personal wealth. The legacy of his reign was devastating. The state of the country was so appalling they need help from outside agencies. Just one example of the shocking level of abuse, neglect and despair among was an single orphanage with more than 700 abandoned children.

In 1990 both Danny Thompson and Joseph Walker independently volunteered to help out in Romania. Danny was a truck driver and Joseph was a builder and both offered their time and the skills they had.

When they met on a project in Romania they decided to combine their efforts into the charity “People in Need Worldwide”. Since that point they have undertaken a number of projects in Romania, Africa and in the UK.
