OXFORD WINTER NIGHT SHELTER (OWNS)
Our vision is to mitigate the harm that sleeping rough does to people's health and safety, especially during the coldest months of the year.
We aim to show the love of God to each of our guests through the way we welcome and care for them, although we do not push religion at our guests.
What matters to us and why we do it
In the belief that God wants us all to live fulfilled lives, we put a high priority on respecting our guests.
We work within a Christian ethos, and while not excluding guests or volunteers of other faiths or none, have the expectation that they will respect and abide by our values.
We acknowledge that we share with all other major faiths, and people of no faith, a desire to help some of the most vulnerable in our society.
Please donate to support our cause.
Overview of OWNS
A number of churches in central Oxford are providing shelter for rough sleepers.
The shelters run from 1st January to 31st March. 2018 was the first winter of its operations when it had 10 beds available each night. From winter 2019 they will accommodate up to 20 men and women in different locations in central Oxford.
The guests are provided with a warm welcome, hot drinks and a snack on arrival, a warm bed, and breakfast the following morning.
The Oxford Winter Night Shelter is a registered charity Number 1175750.
Income is provided by other charities, churches, colleges, schools and donations from individuals.
We own no property, and most of the churches involved in the scheme provide necessary items from their own resources.
We employ one member of staff, being the Project Manager. All other staffing is done by volunteers.
