Nottingham Contemporary
Charity description

Nottingham Contemporary is one of Britain’s leading centres
for contemporary art. We are an arts and educational charity. Admission is free
allowing our international art and public programme to be open to all.
We opened seven years ago, in November 2009. In that time we
have attracted over 1 million visitors.
The Guardian named us ‘gallery of the year’, while The Observer has described our exhibitions programme as ‘constantly inventive.’
Our Learning team works with schools, community groups,
families and young people. Around 25,000 children and adults participate each
year in our Learning programmes.
We have presented major solo exhibitions by David Hockney, Pablo Bronstein, Glenn Ligon, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, James Gillray, Carol Rama, Danh Vo, Huang Yong Ping, Jack Goldstein and Mark Leckey.
Nottingham Contemporary’s programme is equally known for
bold group exhibitions, such as Aquatopia, which explored ‘the imaginary of
ocean deep’; Kafou, which looked at representations of Vodou (voodoo) in
Haitian naïve art since the 1940s; and an exhibition of post-War and
contemporary art curated by Glenn Ligon, featuring Pollock, de Kooning, Kline,
Warhol, Nauman, Eggleston, Ofili and McQueen.
