Charity description

New Belfast Islamic Cultural Centre Project logo
Belfast Islamic Centre (BIC) is the main Islamic Centre for Muslims in Northern Ireland (NI), catering to a diverse and active population made up of over 42 different nationalities. Around 6000 Muslims live in NI of which over 1000 live within a 5km radius of BIC. Over 400 attend Friday prayers which have to be split into two sessions due to overcrowding. We support Muslim students from all over the world, Refugees and Asylum seekers, provide women’s activities and Islamic school for children but our work is restricted due to inadequate facilities. Currently we meet in a converted Victorian house which requires constant repairs.A growing community means the existing building has become cramped and no longer fit for purpose. Full renovation or extension will be expensive and poor value for money.

We have now purchased a landmark building in Belfast and have obtained planning permission for its renovation. We are raising money to fund this project in order to provide ample space for the whole community.

Over a number of years we raised £800,000 to purchase the building.

Renovation will be in the region of £1 Million (gdp) We now have £250,000 in savings and assets, but we still need to raise £750,000 to complete the project.
