Maidstone Wind Symphony

Charity description

Maidstone Wind Symphony logo
Maidstone Wind Symphony is widely regarded as one of the United Kingdom's finest wind orchestras.
Under the baton of Jonathan Crowhurst, the orchestra has greatly expanded its repertoire and prides itself on championing new music for wind orchestra.
MWS are currently the National Concert Band champions having won the National Concert Band Symposium in 2015 with a performance of John Mackey's Wine-Dark Sea Symphony for Band conducted by Tom Davoren.Maidstone Wind Symphony is committed to inspiring the next generation of musicians through its masterclass series and education projects.

Our current fundraising priority is to support a major recording project with British Composer Award winner Andy Scott. In October 2016 we will be working with Andy to record his works for wind orchestra for the very first time.
Andy’s music has most recently been featured on the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition performed by finalist Jess Gillam (saxophone). The disc will be produced by the composer himself, as well as featuring world class soloists including Rex Richardson (trumpet), Steven Mead (euphonium), Les Neish (tuba) and Andy Findon (flute). It will be engineered by Grammy award winner David Rowell.
Donated funds will also continue to support projects including commissioning new works, purchasing further items of percussion and developing our community and schools education work.
