The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Concert Society was established in the 1960s to promote musical and cultural events at the Cathedral. The Cantata Choir was founded in the same decade and some years later, in 1982, the Orchestra was formed. Between them Orchestra and Choir perform up to twelve concerts a year featuring a wide range of music - from classical periods to the present - with a focus on less familiar pieces including lesser known works by famous composers, contemporary compositions and specially commissioned works. In addition the year’s programme often includes at least one well known large scale work – Monteverdi’s Vespers (2008), Haydn’s Creation (2009), Handel’s Messiah (2011 and 2014) and the Requiems of Mozart (2015), Brahms (2017) and Fauré (2018). The objective of the Sponsorship Fund is to help secure this latter tradition.
