Little brothers of the good shepherd

Charity description

Little brothers of the good shepherd logo
Good Shepherd Ministry started 15 years ago and over that time we have reached out to thousands of individuals and families in crisis. It started as a soup kitchen supporting a few hundred individuals and now we serve meals in a friendly and safe environment to over 2500 registered clients. We offer support and guidance to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in the community. Good Shepherd opens six days a week in the centre of Wolverhampton offering a safe place with hot meals, takeout food, drinks and advice. We work in partnership with the Midland Langar Seva Society who provide food on Sunday’s ensuring our service users have access to a hot meal and basic necessities 7 days a week. We work alongside a range of partners to tackle both food waste and food hunger. Other food services we provide are three days of family food parcels and individual food parcels. Offering a meal in our dining room allows us to interact and communicate with individuals to get an understanding of the barriers and problems they are facing.

The Service Volunteer  programme supports service users to access suitable accommodation, move towards employment, access training or education and develop skills to build self-reliance and resilience. Each programme attendee works alongside a case manager who guides and supports them along the journey of change. The Outcome Star is used to create a support plan where the service user sets goals and regularly reviews progress with their key worker. Service users are supported to access voluntary placements at the Good Shepherd Ministry or with other partner agencies across the city. Working in a team enables individuals to build confidence and break down barriers as they connect with other volunteers, staff and their peers. Volunteering gives a sense of purpose, builds structure in their lives and gives them a reference for future employment. Let’s Engage Programme After listening to the issues and challenges people living on the streets and hostels face we have developed an evening programme offering activities to give our service users a new focus and direction in life.
