Lesbos Legal Centre
Lesbos (a charity registered by Prism) is LIVE and via our volunteer lawyers we are offering free legal advice and support to many of the 6000 entrants to the island. To ensure our survival we need YOU to please spread the word around and donate a suggested amount of £10 a month (less or more would also be gratefully received). For the price of a couple of drinks or some snacks, this will go a long way towards fighting the cases of those in need and giving them a haven away from the cold and heartlessness of the detention camps. PLEASE HIT DONATE AND SELECT TO SET UP A MONTHLY DIRECT DEBIT.
This vital Centre (the only permanent Centre in Lesbos) has been welcomed by the
Greek authorities and organisations. Our presence seeks
to bring further clarity to the registration process and the Crisis overall in Europe whilst seeking to ensure that Human Rights are being consistently upheld or defended if required.
Europe is in the throes of its worst refugee crisis since WW2. 206,400 migrants and
refugees entered Europe by sea in January to beginning of June 2016. In this time
2,809 died attempting to make the journey, +52% vs. first 6 months of 2015.
The coming months are expected to see the death toll rise in Lesbos, one of the
main entry points into Europe.
Upon arrival, refugees are highly vulnerable. Detained by authorities for a set
period, they are unaware of their rights and often unable to access legal help.
The Legal Centre Lesbos is run by legally trained volunteers and professionals. We have one Greek lawyer but the demand for our service is growing fast and we need
a fully-resourced office.
Please help us provide a voice for the refugees and migrants of Lesbos. We were able to setup the centre due to kind donors but to survive we need it to be self-sustaining with more funding. Help us change lives. We can’t do this alone.
Lesbos Legal Centre is a restricted fund under the auspices of Prism the Gift Fund, Registered Charity number 1099682.
Charity No: 1099682
