Charity description

This is our very last chance to save Kinloch Castle. It suffers from a host of serious problems with water, condensation and dry rot but a recent very thorough survey has convinced us that the castle can still be saved, but only just. We need your help to raise a good deal of money in the next two years to save the castle. Join our Association and visit our website

The castle, built around 1900, was “a Dream in Stone, Glass and Gadgets.” Alastair Scott explains in ‘Eccentric Wealth’ how this extraordinary building was used as a shooting lodge until 1964 when it came into the care of Scottish Natural Heritage. In the late 20th century it was a hotel and hostel for visitors who came to Rum to walk, study its unique wildlife and geology and marvel at the time capsule that the main rooms of the house had become. The Great Hall, the panelled Dining Room, the Ball  Room and the Billiard Room are as they were when Sir George and Lady Bullough last visited.
The castle is now closed except to visitors during the summer months. Inevitable deterioration has set in. Now the process of transferring the castle and contents to the Kinloch Castle Friends Association has begun, the plan being to preserve the great rooms, open the hostel and restaurant and provide more accommodation for visitors to this wonderful island.
Please support our cause.
