Kagyu Samye Dzong,
Scarborough (KSDS) (also known as Samye Yorkshire) is the Yorkshire branch of the U.K. registered charity Rokpa Trust. KSDS are passionately committed to the regeneration of Londesborough Lodge, a beautiful historic building in
Scarborough. Londesborough Lodge will be a centre for mindfulness, meditation,
health and well-being offering a range of services including yoga, tai-chi, holistic therapies, counselling, mindfulness and compassion training programmes.

Before KSDS took over the building it had been empty for 7 years, there was asbestos and rising damp in the building, lead work and guttering had been stolen, roof slates were missing and windows smashed. KSDS took over the building in July 2014 as a community asset transfer from Scarborough Borough Council.

Because of the poor condition and size of the property, the project to open a community
centre for meditation, health and well-being was divided into 3 phases. We are just coming to the end of Phase 2 which will complete work on the first floor and annex flats to provide us residential accommodation for letting. This will complement our Phase 1 work which is already operational and includes an office, reception/tea room, toilets, large meditation/conference hall, therapy room and a fully equipped room for those with disabilities which is also used as a small meeting room. We currently offer courses in mindfulness and meditation plus yoga and Pilates classes.

We will be starting on Phase 3 in 2017. This is the conversion of the old Turkish Baths
in the basement into yoga studio, toilets, a health café/events area, kitchen and a platform lift to make the area fully accessible.
