Jesuit Volunteer Community: Britain

Charity description

Jesuit Volunteer Community: Britain logo
The Jesuit Volunteer Community (JVC) provides opportunities for young adults 18-35 to live a simple lifestyle in community, explore Ignatian spirituality, and work as full-time volunteers serving people who are marginalised in Britain. Our year and summer programmes also provide for the development of our volunteers and support them in growing their compassion for those on the edges of our society. JVC is a work of the Jesuits in Britain.

Every year, JVC volunteers give over 20,000 hours to projects supporting people in acute need in Britain, working to improve the lives of people who are living in poverty and deprivation right alongside us, too often unseen and inconvenient.

The cost of running our programmes is about £14,000 for each year volunteer and £1,500 for every summer volunteer. This covers housing and travel costs during the programme; a modest allowance for personal expenses, food and household bills; residential events enabling volunteers to reflect on and explore their experience; a spiritual retreat; individual mentoring and group facilitation.

JVC volunteers are remarkable people doing valuable work which not only benefits local communities, but provides a range of skills and experience to equip them to meet life’s challenges.

Please consider a donating at least £5 a month (or equivalent in your own currency) to help a young person take up this valuable service.
