Hospice Africa provides funding for patient care and training medical staff at Hospice Africa Uganda (in Kampala, Mbarara and Hoima) and clinics in Malawi, Cameroon, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Since 1993 we have treated over 30,000 cancer patients in Uganda, trained 10,053 nurses, doctors and medical students in the use of oral morphine for pain control and prepared 873 community volunteers to help patients and their families. We have sent over £4 million to Africa to pay for this. In the year to 31 March 2017 our income was £283,917, and we sent £167,492 to Africa, with a further £201,016 allocated ready to support our work there. Our expenses (publicity, fund raising, accounting and AGM costs) were £4,152, about 1.5% of our income. We do not employ anyone in the UK or rent office space.
