Herefordshire Growing Point

Charity description

Herefordshire Growing Point logo
Herefordshire Growing Point is a social and horticultural therapy charity working with disabled and vulnerable people of all ages living in Herefordshire. Since 1989, we have been running regular gardening activities led by skilled tutors with experience in horticulture and caring for disabled people. Working with plants, seeing things grow, and getting out into the fresh air gives the chance of regular physical exercise, stimulation of the senses, and improves well-being. Joining in with other people and sharing a common interest can build sociability, and reduce loneliness for people living in isolation. In 2013, the charity received a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for its exemplary contribution to improving the lives of people with complex needs.

Our creative horticultural programmes are designed to address specific therapeutic needs and abilities of individuals. Gardening sessions take place in a caring and safe environment based at our purpose built demonstration garden in Holme Lacy, Herefordshire, or in outreach sessions for people unable to travel. We also offer social activities for our gardeners and their family and carers - annual garden outings, a summer barbecue and the Autumn produce show. The charity is run by volunteers, and each year we need to raise all our running costs through donations. Your generous support will enable us to continue helping more disabled people to enjoy the social and therapeutic benefits of gardening.
