Hart Foodbank

Charity description

Hart Foodbank logo
Hart Foodbank provides emergency food parcels for individuals and families in crisis who, for many reasons, are not able to buy food for themselves.

Hart Foodbank operates in conjunction with the Trussell Trust. Since it started in 2011, the foodbank has grown considerably and feeds over 1200 poor and vulnerable families in Hart annually. We provide emergency food to an average of 15 families weekly. We have evidence from clients that the foodbank provides a lifeline until these people can get more permanent financial support. We distribute about 20 tonnes of food per annum valued at £35k. There are 100 volunteers, 40 regular donor groups and 40 voucher distributors. For all these reasons, in 2015 we decided to employ a part-time project manager. At the same time we received news that for 2016 we must rent commercial space for our central food storage. Currently, we only receive £3k of regular donations plus a few council grants. Unless we obtain substantially more donations and financial support, in the region of £20k pa, the foodbank may have to close after next year.
