Harmeny Education Trust provides care and education to children who’ve had a challenging start in life. They come to us from all over Scotland and are often way behind with their learning. They often find themselves stigmatised, isolated and misunderstood through no fault of their own.
At Harmeny our children discover how to be children again – to play, make friends and find fresh ways of learning that focus on their strengths.
The core costs of care and education at Harmeny are met through local authority fees. However, it is your donations, no matter how small, that make all the difference to the children.
Your support enables us to adapt and innovate our specialist support services and the respond to the growing needs of our own children and other vulnerable children in our community.
Please support the Harmeny Learning for Life Appeal.
We want to do more. We need to raise £2.4million to create much needed space and increased opportunities for changing the lives of young people both at Harmeny and from local communities.
The Learning for Life Appeal will provide:
- Space to relax: We will extend two of our residential cottages via new living and kitchen accommodation.
- Space to learn and thrive: We will create a new multi-purpose Outdoor Centre and Learning Hub to house our two secondary classrooms and expand our outdoors, woodwork and art & design facilities. This building is key to unlocking our children’s potential, building their self-confidence and develop their relationships with themselves, each other and the world around them.
- Increased access to our space: The new Outdoor Centre and Learning Hub will also provide the space we need to work with a further 60 young people at risk of exclusion from secondary schools in South West Edinburgh. Allowing us to share our expertise with more vulnerable children and extend the age range of children we can work with.
